Hanuman Jayanti Celebrations Across USA 2026
United States, April 2, 2026 — Hindu communities from coast to coast in the United States came together with immense devotion to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti 2026, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, the eternal symbol of strength, unwavering devotion, courage, and selfless service to Lord Rama.
This year, Hanuman Jayanti fell on Thursday, April 2, 2026, coinciding with Chaitra Purnima. While the Purnima tithi began on April 1 evening and extended into April 2, temples and organisations held special events primarily on April 1 and 2 to accommodate devotees.
Global Online Celebration: Chalisas for Peace
One of the largest and most inspiring events was the sixth edition of “Chalisas for Peace” — a 16-hour continuous worldwide broadcast on April 2, 2026. Over 108 singers and kirtan artists from more than 30 countries, including renowned voices like Krishna Das, Nina Rao, Anup Jalota, and Jai Uttal, chanted the Hanuman Chalisa 108 times. The virtual event, open to all with free registration, aimed at spreading peace, positive energy, and collective devotion.
Major Celebrations in Key Cities
Texas (Houston & Dallas): Houston’s Hanuman Mandir of Greater Houston organised vibrant events, including a special “Maha Sankalp” gathering with collective Hanuman Chalisa chanting involving hundreds of devotees. The temple in Brookshire and other venues hosted full-day programs with abhishekam, aarti, and prasad distribution. In Dallas, the Radha Krishna Temple and Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple in Frisco held special Hanuman Abhishek, Sunderkand Path, and mass Chalisa recitations in the presence of spiritual leaders. The temples remained open for darshan throughout the day with special archana and car pujas.
California: At Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville, devotees gathered at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple for a traditional celebration that included a colourful parade, chanting of the Sundar Kand from the Ramayana, Vedic yajna (fire ceremony), and a community feast. The event also commemorated the auspicious installation of the Hanuman murti on this day years ago.
New York and East Coast: Temples in the New York area and other East Coast cities organised special pujas, bhajans, and Hanuman Chalisa recitations. Many communities combined the celebrations with Ramanavami observances, reflecting the deep connection between Lord Rama and Hanuman.
Minnesota: The Hindu Temple of Minnesota hosted a beautiful program on April 1 with Sundara Kanda Havan, followed by 108 Hanuman Chalisa paath on April 4, along with bhajans, archana, and community dinner.
Other Regions:
- Arizona: Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Phoenix conducted Sundara Kaandam parayanam and special abhishekam.
- Yale University (Connecticut): The Hindu Students Organisation organised a joint Ramanavami and Hanuman Jayanti puja.
- Temples in Chicago, Washington DC area (Jaya Hanuman Temple), Georgia, and other cities held abhishekam, Hanuman puja, and devotional singing.
Significance of Hanuman Jayanti
Lord Hanuman, also known as Bajrangbali, Pavan Putra, and Sankat Mochan, is revered as the epitome of bhakti (devotion), shakti (strength), and buddhi (wisdom). Devotees believe that observing Hanuman Jayanti with faith grants protection from obstacles, physical and mental strength, and success in endeavours.
Common rituals observed across the USA included:
- Early morning abhishekam (ritual bathing) of Hanuman idols with milk, water, and sacred offerings
- Recitation of Hanuman Chalisa, Sundar Kand, and other stotras
- Special aarti, bhajans, and kirtans
- Distribution of prasad and community langar
- Processions and cultural programs showcasing Hanuman’s leelas
Many temples encouraged devotees to observe fasts or partake in sattvic meals and perform acts of seva (selfless service) in honour of Hanuman’s ideal of duty without expectation.
Spirit of Unity in the Diaspora
For the Indian-American and broader Hindu diaspora in the United States, Hanuman Jayanti serves as a powerful occasion to preserve cultural and spiritual heritage while fostering community bonds. In a fast-paced American life, these celebrations provide moments of peace, reflection, and collective strength.
Temples reported high turnout, with families, youngsters, and professionals participating enthusiastically. Many events were live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
As the chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Hanuman” echoed across American cities, the festival once again reminded devotees of Hanuman’s timeless message: “With faith and devotion, no obstacle is insurmountable.”
Jai Bajrangbali!
