New Anti-Aging Pill for Dogs: US Pet Owners Alert

New Anti-Aging Pill for Dogs: US Pet Owners Alert

JUST IN: A tasty beef-flavored daily pill developed by California biotech company Loyal is on track to become the first FDA-approved drug designed to extend the healthy lifespan of senior dogs — with a potential launch as early as late 2026.

The drug, called LOY-002, targets dogs aged 10 years and older that weigh at least 14 pounds (6.3 kg). It aims to improve metabolic health, reduce age-related frailty, and add more quality years to a dog’s life by addressing the underlying drivers of aging.

How the Beef-Flavored Pill Works

LOY-002 is a prescription chewable pill that helps correct metabolic dysfunction common in older dogs. It lowers elevated levels of the hormone IGF-1, which supports rapid growth in puppies but contributes to faster aging and disease later in life. The company describes it as mimicking some benefits of caloric restriction without changing your dog’s diet.

Loyal’s CEO and founder Celine Halioua has stated the goal is not immortality, but extending the period of healthy, active life for senior dogs.

Major FDA Progress

Loyal has already cleared two of the three key requirements for conditional FDA approval:

  • Reasonable Expectation of Effectiveness (RXE)
  • Target Animal Safety (TAS)

Only the manufacturing and technical section remains under review. If successful, veterinarians could begin prescribing LOY-002 by the end of 2026, making it a historic first — the first FDA-approved drug intended to extend lifespan itself in any species.

A large-scale clinical trial known as the STAY study is fully enrolled and underway, involving over 1,000 dogs at dozens of veterinary clinics across the United States. Half the participating dogs receive the real beef-flavored pill, while the other half get a placebo.

What This Means for American Dog Owners

For millions of American families who treat their dogs like beloved family members, this could be game-changing news. Senior dogs often face declining health in their later years, and LOY-002 offers hope for more time filled with walks, play, and companionship.

The pill would be available by prescription through veterinarians and is designed to be easy to give — most dogs are expected to enjoy the beef flavor.

Important reminders:

  • This is not an immortality treatment. Results will vary by individual dog.
  • It is intended as a supplement to — not a replacement for — proper diet, exercise, and regular veterinary care.
  • Pricing details have not yet been released.

Loyal has raised significant funding (over $250 million) to advance its longevity research for dogs, with plans for additional treatments tailored to different breeds and sizes.

What Pet Owners Can Do Now

  • Talk to your veterinarian about your senior dog’s health and whether they might qualify for future treatments like LOY-002.
  • Continue best practices: annual check-ups, balanced nutrition, and regular exercise.
  • Watch for official updates from Loyal and the FDA.

This development reflects a growing focus on pet longevity and wellness in the U.S., where Americans spend billions annually on pet care.
