Get ready to break into the iconic theme song because Malcolm is officially back! Just in time to end 2025 on a nostalgic high, Hulu has released the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated revival of the beloved early-2000s sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. Titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, the four-episode limited series reunites most of the original cast and promises the same chaotic, dysfunctional family energy that made the show a cult classic.
The teaser, which dropped on December 29, 2025, opens with an adult Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) confidently declaring, “My life is fantastic now… All I had to do was stay away from my family!” But that peace is short-lived when his parents, Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), demand his presence at their 40th wedding anniversary party. Cue the classic mayhem: Malcolm hiding in a bathroom stall from Lois, confetti cannons, Hal wielding a typewriter like a weapon, and plenty of awkward family reunions.
The revival follows grown-up genius Malcolm, who has spent over a decade shielding himself and his teenage daughter Leah (Keeley Karsten) from his wild family. Now, he’s dragged back into the orbit of chaos for the milestone celebration. The story keeps the spirit of the original alive while introducing fresh dynamics, including Malcolm’s girlfriend Tristan (Kiana Madeira) and new family members.
Who’s Returning and Who’s New?
- Frankie Muniz reprises his role as the titular Malcolm, now a dad navigating life with his own kid.
- Bryan Cranston is back as the lovably hapless dad Hal.
- Jane Kaczmarek returns as the fierce, no-nonsense mom Lois.
- Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are reprising Francis and Reese, respectively.
- Emy Coligado is back as Piama.
The one big change? Erik Per Sullivan, who played youngest brother Dewey in the original series, is not returning (he’s reportedly focused on studies at Harvard). Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps in as adult Dewey.
New additions include Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, Vaughan Murrae as youngest sibling Kelly, Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend Tristan, and Anthony Timpano as Jamie.
Original creator Linwood Boomer is back as writer and executive producer, with Ken Kwapis directing all four episodes. The series is produced by Disney Television Studios and New Regency.
Filming wrapped earlier in 2025, and Muniz has called the experience “probably one of the best times I’ve ever had on a set,” adding that it was the first time in his life he was “happy to call myself an actor” after wrapping.
Why Fans Are Buzzing
The original Malcolm in the Middle ran for seven seasons on Fox from 2000 to 2006, earning seven Primetime Emmy Awards and a special place in comedy history with its fourth-wall-breaking style, wild antics, and heartfelt family moments. Nearly 20 years later, this revival is part of the wave of “comfort food TV” bringing back fan-favorite shows.
All 151 episodes of the original series are currently streaming on Hulu (and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers), making it the perfect time to binge before the new episodes drop.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair premieres April 10, 2026, with all four 30-minute episodes releasing at once on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ (internationally on Disney+).
