Houston Tornado Damage 2025: Full Impact Report: 100+ Homes Damaged, No Lives Lost

**By ClickUSANews Staff | November 26, 2025**

SPRING/KLEIN, Texas – A powerful EF-2 tornado slammed into northwest Harris County suburbs on Sunday, November 24, leaving more than 100 homes damaged, thousands of trees snapped like matchsticks, and entire neighborhoods without power. Miraculously, no one was killed or seriously injured.

The twister touched down shortly before 2 p.m., carving a chaotic path through subdivisions including Memorial Northwest, Riata Ranch, and parts of Cypress and Klein. Winds peaked at 116 mph, strong enough to peel roofs off houses, lift garages clean away from foundations, and hurl debris hundreds of yards.

“It sounded like a freight train, then everything went dead quiet for two seconds before the house started shaking,” said Spring resident Guillermo Vargas. Moments later, his detached garage was gone, but his family—huddled in an interior hallway—was unharmed.

Drone footage showed the aftermath in stark detail: roofs crumpled like tin foil, massive oak trees uprooted and tossed onto cars, fences shredded, and blue tarps already flapping over emergency roof patches by Monday morning.

## Community Comes Together

By sunrise Monday, neighbors were out with chainsaws clearing driveways and streets. Houston and Harris County fire crews worked overnight to remove dangerous hanging limbs and restore traffic signals. CenterPoint Energy reported more than 27,000 customers lost power at the storm’s peak; nearly all were restored by Wednesday.

“It’s heartbreaking to see, but it’s also beautiful how everyone just shows up for each other,” said Klein resident Quinn Ocker, who spent the day helping elderly neighbors secure tarps.

A separate lightning-sparked house fire in Klein was quickly contained, and first responders praised residents for heeding tornado warnings and taking shelter immediately.

## Recovery Efforts and FEMA Response

Harris County officials are urging residents to report damage through the county’s online iSTAT survey to help qualify the area for state and possible federal aid. FEMA is monitoring the event and has already activated resources used earlier this year for Central Texas flooding.

Residents are reminded to:
– Take photos of all damage for insurance claims
– Keep receipts for temporary repairs and hotels
– Avoid downed power lines and treat all lines as live

## Why November Tornadoes Are Becoming More Common

Texas has already recorded 96 confirmed tornadoes in 2025—well above average—and experts say warmer Gulf waters are pumping extra moisture and instability into late-season storms. While overall tornado counts may not be skyrocketing, the strongest and most unpredictable events are shifting later into fall and winter.

## Quick Tornado Safety Checklist (Shareable Infographic)

– **Safe Place:** Interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows (bathtub or closet works great)
– **Protect Your Head:** Bike helmets, cushions, or heavy blankets
– **Shoes On:** Flying glass and nails are the #1 injury source
– **Stay Informed:** NOAA Weather Radio or a trusted weather app with alerts turned on
– **After the Storm:** Wait for the all-clear; watch for downed power lines and gas leaks

## Holiday Travel Heads-Up

The same cold front that spawned Sunday’s tornado is still causing flight delays at George Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports. With another round of storms possible this weekend, travelers heading out for Thanksgiving or returning home are urged to check flight status early and build extra time into plans.

Houston-area residents proved once again why Texas toughness is more than a slogan. From chainsaws at dawn to neighbors feeding neighbors, recovery is already well underway.

Stay safe, stay weather-aware, and have a blessed Thanksgiving from all of us at ClickUSANews.
