FBI Raid Finds Suspected Illegal Biological Materials in Las Vegas Home
Shocking Discovery: FBI Raid Uncovers Suspected Illegal Biological Materials in Las Vegas Home – Linked to Reedley, California Case
Las Vegas, Nevada – February 5, 2026 – Federal and local authorities have confirmed a major investigation following a raid on a northeast Las Vegas residence, where over 1,000 samples of potential biological and hazardous materials were seized from a locked garage. The operation, executed on January 31, 2026, has drawn direct connections to a prior illegal biolab case in Reedley, California, raising renewed concerns about biosafety oversight and unlicensed biomedical activities in residential settings.
According to officials from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) and the FBI, the search warrant stemmed from a tip about suspicious lab equipment and hazardous substances stored at the property on Sugar Springs Drive, near East Washington Avenue and North Hollywood Boulevard.
Investigators discovered multiple refrigerators and freezers containing vials of unknown liquids, gallon-sized containers with unidentified substances, a centrifuge, a biosafety hood, and other laboratory equipment. Authorities described the items as “consistent in appearance” with materials recovered during the 2022-2023 Reedley investigation. More than 1,000 samples were carefully collected and transported to an FBI laboratory for comprehensive testing to identify any potential pathogens or hazardous agents. No immediate public health threat has been reported, and testing remains ongoing with results pending.
Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasized the complexity of the scene during a February 2 press briefing: “The materials have not yet been identified and still require careful assessment.” FBI Special Agent in Charge Chris Delzotto reiterated that updates would be evidence-based and methodical to protect public safety.
One individual, 55-year-old Ori Solomon – identified as the property manager for the raided home and a related property – was arrested on charges including felony disposal and discharge of hazardous waste (Nevada state level) and federal firearms violations as a prohibited person. Court documents indicate that exposure to materials in the garage reportedly caused illness in at least two individuals who entered the space prior to the raid.
The property is owned by an LLC linked to Jia Bei Zhu (also known as Jesse Zhu, David He, or Qiang He), a 62-year-old Chinese national currently in federal custody awaiting trial in April 2026. Zhu faces charges related to the Reedley case, where his companies – Prestige Biotech Inc. and Universal Meditech Inc. – allegedly operated an unlicensed facility manufacturing and distributing misbranded diagnostic test kits (including for COVID-19, HIV, and pregnancy) without proper permits.
In the Reedley incident (discovered in late 2022), authorities uncovered thousands of vials – some labeled with pathogens such as HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis, and others – along with unlabeled or coded samples, manufacturing equipment, and nearly 1,000 transgenic mice engineered to carry human-like immune responses and potentially capable of hosting viruses like SARS-CoV-2. A 2023 congressional report by the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party highlighted biosecurity risks, poor storage conditions, and alleged financial ties to Chinese entities involved in military-civil fusion activities.
While the Las Vegas materials echo aspects of the Reedley findings (including refrigerated vials and lab gear), authorities have not confirmed the presence of active infectious agents such as COVID-19, hepatitis, or malaria in the current samples. No evidence has been publicly released linking the Las Vegas operation directly to genetically engineered mice or specific pathogen cultures at this stage.
The FBI has executed additional search warrants, including a return visit to the former Reedley site, as part of the expanded probe. This development has prompted bipartisan calls for stronger federal oversight, including legislation like the Preventing Illegal Laboratories and Protecting Public Health Act of 2025, introduced by Reps. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), Jim Costa (D-CA), and David Valadao (R-CA).
The incident underscores persistent challenges in regulating high-risk biological materials outside permitted facilities, particularly in residential or commercial spaces. Biosafety experts stress the importance of proper containment, labeling, and permitting to prevent accidental exposure or misuse.
ClickUSANews.com will continue monitoring official updates from the FBI, LVMPD, and federal prosecutors as laboratory results and further details emerge. This case highlights critical national security and public health implications surrounding unlicensed biomedical operations.
